Evening Everyone hope everyone had a good day.

Its just a quickie
I was using my pc fine yesterday however this evening it took 25mins to load up.
When it finally loaded i had a error message saying my virtual memory is low.

What is this?
Can i fix it? This i dont i can just about turn my computer on without the manual.Do i need to get my memory upgraded?

    Hi Maka,

Was yesterday Patch Tuesday? i.e Microsoft updates are sent out to machines on either the second or third tuesday of the month and it slowed own my machine yesterday for over 40 minutes whilst it uploaded all these upgrades and then installed them. Its working fine today - just slow for 10 minutes or so whilst all the updates kicked in.

I think the RAM gets used up sorting all this out - it does on my pc as its about 6 years old now and I have had these messages before.

I might be wrong but have you tried shutting down and trying again. Standard IT response reboot but you never know!

If not somebody will hopefully help before long. I am not the most techie person either so I know how you feel!!!

    Good Luck.

There were a load of Windows updates yesterday so this might just be Windows sorting itself out for the first reboot after the update.

Does it happen after every reboot? How much memory is in the computer? Start - Run - msconfig - OK. How many programs on Startup tab? Also bring up Task Manager to see how many programs are currently running.

check you have hd space left , running out of virtual memory usually means no hd space left.

run ccleaner ,also do an adv file search and search for big files in windows.

delete all but recent restore points if pc is fine.

    Scandisk and defrag

    you don't have much ram 222mb, www.crucial.com/uk

another 256meg of ram would probably give you a vast improvement if you are using XP
