I've experienced all of the above.

When my air conditioning starts to be warmer than the outside air, it's time to change my car.

    That worked a treat.

    :rotfl:

Now to clean coffee off my keyboard. ;)
  • Leave your AC on all year and you should never have to get a regas, there are tolerances and amounts which the manufacturer is allowed to loose over a period but they are minimal and shouldn't really effect any car less than 10 years old. With regards to kwikfit I don't think Youl have trouble getting a refund, especially if you point out that they have just let a full charge of r134a into the atmosphere through not spotting a leak. Something that potentially carries a hefty fine.

usually they have a condition where if the temp doesnt reach a certain degree u get a refund

go back and let them look at it
    What goes around-comes around
  • I had mine done at Kwik Fit also. It had never been done in the 9 years I've had my car.

Doesn't seem as icy cold 4 months after having it done :(

    But that's probably Kwik Fit.

Had a puncture on near the limit front left tyre on holiday last week, they put new Michelin tyre on. Next day doing 70mph on the motorway my steering wheel was shaking and vibrating like mad, I was terrified. Stopped to look at tyres and guy comes over (ex-racing mechanic) and says they haven't balanced it, and it could have exploded and killed us at speed.

Took it back to Kwik Fit, they apologised and agreed the fitter HADN'T balanced it, so did it and balanced front right tyre "for free" too.

Not happy and won't go back there ever again.

My aircon is making a terrible noise and smells after being on for a couple of minutes. Can't really describe the smell or the noise.

I know it will make some noise but it really doesn't sound helpful. I asked HiQ to take a look while they did a service and they noticed some exhaust sleeve needed replacing so they did that and said that might solve it (I was highly skeptical at the time that it would, but I'm no professional). Did nothing, same issues. Anyone any thoughts?

Lots of people have the idea that an AC needs a re-charge every couple of years or so - not true.

An air-con system should not need a re-charge as a matter of routine. How often do you recharge your fridge or freezer?

In a fridge the motor is sealed with in the compressor so the gas cant escape unless there a damaged piece of tubing.

On a car as its driven by the engine is driving the compressor so it needs seals which are never prefect so you loose a bit of gas over time, but we are talking over a few years.

But the rest of your points are true.
