Best publication/Internet sites to view small businesses for sale?

I'm on the lookout to buy a small ,possibly existing business.
Can anyone suggest good publications or website that have listings for small businesses for sale?

Thanks as usual

I would look local newspapers. That might mean travelling to neighbouring towns and cities to get a range of papers, but it could be worthwhile.

Daltons (used to be Daltons Weekly newspaper)

Also any trade-specific press, eg if you are looking for a hotel then Caterer & Hotelkeeper will have adverts from agents selling that type of business (and those agents will have many more businesses that they aren't advertising).

Before you go looking to buy, narrow down what business you, and your lifestyle, want to be in. No point checking out the many, "cheap", round the clock convenience stores/sub-post offices/independent filling stations/pubs perpetually on the market if you want to keep your hands clean and work 9-5.
  • Daltons has already been mentioned.

The two other big ones in the UK are businessesforsale.com and rightbiz. There's the new bizdaq, but it's not my cup of tea.

Those options will cover 90% of the small businesses for sale.

If you know what type of business you want there are specific publications. For example, if you want to buy a sub post office, the Post Office website lists sub-post offices for sale.

You say "small business" but depending on how much you're looking to invest you could appoint a buy-side broker to find you exactly what you're looking for (in terms of sectors and/or RoI).
