    The suggestion to speak to the employer now is a sound one. It gives the employer much more time to look at the possible options.
    Redundancy is not going to be one of those options though as redundancy is about a role / job being removed, not an employee. As the role is still there and it's your partner who can't fulfil it, redundancy is not an option. Unless the employer does decide that they can actually do without the role that is.
