Aviva contents insurance, reporting to credit file for 2 years after closing accountu

I moved house August last year and closed my account. This is still being reported to my credit file as an open account. So I have a conflict of addresses because of this.
I have spoken to Aviva and asked that they back date closure. They are adamant that this is procedure and it will have NO adverse affect on my credit file as it get me green marks every month. They won't update my address either as its a closed account.
Are they allowed to do this?

What do you mean by "closed my account"? If you mean that you cancelled the policy during the period of cover then I can't see that Aviva have any reason to report after the month in which cover ceased. I'd make a formal complaint (if you haven't already) and if that doesn't work contact the FOS.0

I cancelled the policy and they have continued to report to my account like they would if they were still receiving payments from me. The policy is definitely closed they have confirmed this. They state that this is there standard practice and will not be affecting my credit rating despite the fact it's against my old address and still active on my credit file.
I have raised a complaint but they are pretty much saying that it's standard practice and thus it won't be changed.Official DFW Nerd number 227

Could be a breach of data protection - files have to be accurate and not excessive0

Fingers crossed you're correct, I have now written to the FOS so hopefully they come up with something. I'll just be happy to have it sorted but if I get some compensation too even better.Official DFW Nerd number 227
