hello,
I have free agv on a fairly new laptop which seems to be going fine. But I constantly get popups of adverts or things to buy when opening things off the search?
do I need to install something else please?
Thankyou

you probably need to uninstall something rather than install, ie a rogue toolbar or search provider
malwarebytes might find the cause if you can't see it in programs and features0 -
thankyou. wouldn't have a clue where to start looking lol so will look at malwarebytes0
-
sort the list of installed programs into date order, and compare to when it started, or look in the toolbar/extensions/add-ons section of your browser.0

If you use firefox or chrome you can install adblock or adblock plus, confusingly these are totally different programs. I have adblock on chrome and adblock plus on firefox, both are very effective.0

If Malwarebytes doesn't pick it up try ADW Cleaner which should get rid of the nasties http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Thanks everyone, I've done all the suggestions and still having trouble0

this kind of thing often needs a "full" cleanout, part of which you've done already...
1. windows disk cleanup }these two steps will clear out all temp files, often where such adware sits
2. CCleaner both clean and registry sections } so best doing this before running the scans
3. MBAM
4. Adwcleaner
5. JRT
6. Manually reset browsers
Ideally, all steps to be done sequentially with nothing inbetween, i.e. set aside an hour to do all of this in one go. Make sure you have MBAM, ADWcleaner and JRT already installed/downloaded prior to starting. Adwcleaner and JRT should be got from bleepingcomputer.com.
This lot should clear out anything, but also add adblock or similar to your browsers as mentioned above, there's even a version of adblock plus for Internet Explorer these days.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Thanks I will try all that
Think the only thing not done is cc0 -
list what's installed
https://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-how-tos/listing-installed-programs
what browser you are using, and what add-ons are installed
or use a different browser0 -
You scanned with ADWCleaner properly? Okay try Trojan Killer as well http://trojan-killer.net/“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”
