SoGA does not "regulate" sales. It implies certain terms into contracts, and elevates certain terms into conditions. It doesn't limit a right to damages (or restrict any other remedy under contract law).

I didn't say it regulated sales.

It does, however, protect the retailer from having to offer a disproportionately costly remedy.

And all S75 does is make the credit provider jointly and severally liable for upholding your consumer rights. Nowhere do your consumer rights say you should be offered a repair if that's what you require. A refund is an acceptable remedy.

I also didn't say it was an impossible outcome, but I would bet that the CC provider won't happily pay for repairs out of their own pocket when the retailer has already offered to uphold their SoGA responsibility.

You don't contact Visa but your bank/ card issuer

Have you had a quote for it to be repaired? You've more chance of a non-refund settlement from the merchant or manufacturer than the bank

Perhaps you can provide a source for this... (ie SoGA in particular)

Cant you buy a different make? Quite frankly if it went wrong after 6 months I wouldn't be wanting another one. What make was it and have you looked online to see if this is a common problem.

If they offer you a refund, they are unlikely to want the faulty unit back. So you can pay for it to be repaired out of the refund.
My postings reflect my lifetime's experience and my opinion. You are quite welcome to respond with your experiences and option, whether similar or different.

How fancy can this DVD recorder be that there are no new, similar ones available for a similar price?
