Avantage ZX6 House Alarm Stuck In Tamper Mode

I just tried to change the battery in my Advantage ZX6 alarm control panel for my home security system.
I took the cover off.
The alarm went in to tamper mode
I entered the 4 digit engineers code
The alarm remained in tamper mode
I also entered the 4 digit user code
The alarm remained in tamper mode
After twenty minutes of trying various combinations of keys in conjunction with either the engineers code or the user code I then attempted a factory reset by removing power shorting out the NVM pins and re applying power for three seconds. The alarm remained in tamper mode.
Eventually I disconnected mains power the battery in the control unit and the battery in the bell box. The alarm is currently not operational.
On removing the cover I was of the belief all I had to do was to enter the 4 digit engineer code to take the unit out of tamper mode. Does anyone know if this is the case or is there additional keys that have to be pressed.
Thanks in advance

In general I have found it necessary to put the alarm in engineer mode FIRST before removing the cover that way the alarm doesn't go off. Try turning everything back on. Then hold in the tamper switch which normally is a switch with a spring on top then type engineer code in.0

The alarm will remain in Tamper mode until you put the cover back on and press reset ............. unless you mean that you've done that and it still stays stuck in Tamper mode!0

Looks like I have made a couple of mistakes. Not entering the engineer code prior to removing the cover, which initially put it in to tamper mode. Then not ensuring the tamper switch was fully depressed when trying to reset it when it was in tamper mode. Thanks for the responses.0
