Question About Council Housing

If she pays the rent herself in full then it's none of the council's business. Some give incentives to move to smaller, like paying removal costs etc but I've never heard of any forcing people to move. As others say if she gets Housing Benefit then she has to tell them and will have money taken from the benefit for bedroom tax.

The lowering of a taxpayer subsidy for storage space is not a tax. To me it's well worth the 14% not to have to drive somewhere and punch in a code in the pouring rain when you need something.

If you are talking about local housing allowance (private renting) then a bedroom is allocated for some one on duty in the armed forces if they intend to return

No, I was talking about SH and the HB reduction or "bedroom tax" for the room belonging to the person in the Armed Forces which they will come home to every weekend, unless away on tour. The thread isn't about LHA, it's about paying bedroom tax for someone at uni, same principle.

But its not a tax. It's a reduction in benefit. For all intents and purposes it is not a tax. It is no more a tax, than it is a furry pink puppy.

Don't take what the council Housing Department say as gospel. Check what they say out (as you are doing, continue to do this).

Shelter might be able to advise.

Are there secure tenancies that require people to move when they under occupy?
