Help New Zealand/Hong Kong

Options
Off to New Zealand in October staying in Hong Kong on way out in Eaton Hotel - anyone heard of it? Also any good sights to see in 2.5 days. Would also be extremely interested on advice about best place/way buying new digi camera as heard that NZ is cheap.

Not stayed there myself, but Eaton hotel is on Nathan Road, between Yau Ma Tei and Jordan MTR stations. You'll finda handful of local stores nearby; theres also a Starbucks pretty close too.

It really depends what you are after, they is the Jade Market near to your hotel as a starter. I would suggest Mong Kok (especially if you want electronics) and probably for some really local food.

in two days for the wow factor i would include a visit to victoria peak..go by the ancient old tram and do it around dusk so you see the skylight in both daylight and night. also travel by star ferry (40p)to go across kowloon and hong kong and take in the achitect of the skyscrapers. visit the toilet in the penninsula hotel in kowloon and lets say you would be blown away...i hear the mens wash is are more awesome then the ladies. walk the golden mile, haggle at temple street market for all your trinkets, chinese art and other bargains to take home. for the taste buds go have a morning dim sum and have what the locals have.
for landscape and fresh air if all the bright lights are to much for you then i recommend an afternoon going to lantau and seeing the awsome bronze buddah.

well...thats what i would do if i have never been to hong kong and have two days knowing what i know now.

  • In the day time head for Stanley Market and find the little beach tucked away at the back- nice for a paddle:j

Take at trip up The Peak, a meal in the restaurant (not cheap but lovely especially in candle light (funky toilets). Get there before sunset (amazing view) and walk off your meal by walking back down (all pavements/roads so no cross country) again amazing views of the neon lights of the HK skyline.

Lantau (already mentioned). Lamma Island (google it). Ocean Park - first part China Gardens complete with Bonsia etc Alton Towers sort of theme park then catch the Cable Cars to the other island and see Giant Pandas, wonderful spooky gold fish, largest fishtank you'll probably ever see in your life complete with divers  .

Shopping- Nathan Road, Stanley Market, Kimberely Road.

Repulse Bay fantastic views look for the hotel that has a gap in the middle- so the dragon can get down from the mountains (no you won't see the dragaon).
    Panda on My Shoulder

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it

Would not suggest shopping along the shops on Nathan Road, especially on the section near Tsim Sha Tsui ... many are known to be priced higher than local rrp.
