Breakdown cover quote

I have just received my Renewal Notice from Green Flag quoting £95.40 a year for one-off payment. Seemed OK to me but decided to look at the Green Flag website and noticed that for my cover which is Rescue Plus it starts from £45 per year. So curious I decided to do an online quote matching all the details, same vehicle, reg number, etc. etc. and the online quote for the next 12 months was only £51.94!! I telephoned Green Flag - they were quite surprised but could only assume that it may be because I had called them out a couple of times and that their quotes would always be different to that quoted online. The excellent news is that they have agreed to match the online quote of £51.94 saving me £43.46 :T.

Anyway, what I am getting at is if you stay with Green Flag or any other breakdown service, do NOT automatically accept their postal Renewal Notice price - I have just proved that going online and doing your own quote MAY result in a cheaper price even if you have called out the breakdown service over the last 12 months or so. If it does come out cheaper ring them up and they should match it.

Result! :money:

This is a common practice and is one of the fundamentals of the MSE site - NEVER accept an auto renewal price.

Theres an entire section dedicated to insurance renewals, and in particular breakdown cover.

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-insurance/breakdown-cover

I've the four cars in our household covered and homestart for all four, any driver for £130 in total using the methods recommended on the above section.

Also, personally, if a company tried to stiff me with a massive auto renewal, i'd go out of my way NOT to use them again.

This site has a wealth of moneysaving info - it must be frustrating for the site that a percentage of people just dip in to the forums and dont use the content provided.

I paid £35 for breakdown and had an autorenewal price (same level of cover) for £120. Rang them up, asked why the almost £100 increase, to be told it was an error and should have been sent out at the same price as before.

I asked whether they would have spotted that error if I let the payment come out and they said probably not no. So I asked if the "error" was infact a way to fleece people who didn't notice, which of course they denied.
