When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Morning guys  looks like it's going to be a lovely weekend here in the south :j

Think it's going to be a stay at home day as dgd was sick in the middle of the night. She seems generally ok now, but has a little temp and not quite her usual easy going self

maria hope you've managed to keep the dog at bay and have done some things to lift your spirits :A

Hannah how was the class? I liked enjoyyourshoes' tip for dealing with anxiety. Reminds me of when I was in my 20s I used to think at any situation that made me feel anxious I would go but if I wasn't having a good time then I would leave. Made me feel brave enough to take chances on things but knowing it was ok to leave kinda gave me some courage

Dawn I hope you have a lovely time with the grandchildren :j Something I feel sad about re our situation that I don't get to be "nan" instead I am parenting our dgd. Might have the weekend off just to be a nan and spoil her (although she was up in the night being sick so might not want the fuss!

Foxgloves glad to see you're feeling more like your old self! Your lists are impressive! Thanks for your supportive words :A Like most of us I'm not very good at looking after myself when I'm low. To be honest I don't think I am depressed, I think it's much more tied up with the grief I'm feeling, trying to make sense of my life and who I am rather than a general depression. It keeps coming in waves, like today I feel fine. But something might happen later that triggers something off. Emotions are raw right now, and something can make me angry and then it bubbles away in me for ages. Am also struggling with relaxing with being unemployed. Rather than just using the time to relax and do things that nurture my soul I just feel guilty and waste time online :o

FatVonD are you ever going to buy a new property? :rotfl: fingers crossed the right one comes up for you!

Bob so pleased to hear it's been a good week trading, and you have the right outlook to help you cope with a dip - but I am going to stay a little optimistic for you! I agree your roadkill figures are impressive. It's obviously true that the big smoke is cobbled with gold :rotfl:

Phew now for my list!

* [STRIKE]check banking[/STRIKE]
* all meals from stores - something for dinner using the meat I had to defrost & cook
* [STRIKE]breakfast will be egg & bacon using up bacon & bread from freezer [/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]water plants[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]submit meter readings[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]buy milk and nothing else![/STRIKE] realised we needed baby wipes before I left so got those as well but nothing else :money: (despite seeing 100gms caburys were on offer)
* email friend about going to stay with her in a couple of weeks :j bit the bullet and purchased the ferry ticket. Fills me with a little anxiety spending any money but could do with a girls weekend on a shoe string :T
* [STRIKE]call ex-mil and explain can't visit this weekend due to dgd being sick[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]go for a run[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]washed & line dried dgd's bedding from where she was sick last night :([/STRIKE]

oh going out with his friend this afternoon. I might try to do some studying (have done 1/3 modules and next session is Monday so easily doable ;)

Ok deliberately not planning much things to do!

    Morning DFW-Devotees,

    Thanks for the starter DNM.

Busy day today starting with a free ParkRun to shake off that 'urgh' feeling. I was gonna skive off today as I'm feeling very slightly Black Dog, but I'm making myself go. "Get off the sofa wee gnome! You won't feel better sitting around feeling sorry for yourself."

    Nillionaire Month Two:

:grinheart Tried again to win Red Bull (Link). No luck.

:grinheart Still hunting for a Fairy Liquid voucher. We love the stuff, though we use it sparingly.

    :grinheart Do RoyalMail surveys. Done.

:grinheart Post wee thing sold on eBay.
    Done.

:grinheart Will consider whether I want to apply for any of the Freebies I posted on yesterday's thread.

:grinheart Have a quick shower. I was so busy yesterday I forgot. :rotfl: Done.

    More later.

Good luck with your Devotions, Devotees.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Good morning
Thanks for the start Determined. Just in bed eating toast and marmite that OH rustled up. Going to a christening today, think the last christening I went to was for the older girls in the same family. People don't tend to do them nowadays do they. We haven't.
Anyway we've hired a car to go there, we did look at doing trains but they were shockingly expensive. Would have been around £80 per adult just to get to the nearest station and then there would have been a cab ride each way as no station in their village. So £60 for car hire in total plus petrol to top the tank up to full again before we return it is pretty good in comparison.

I'm going to pack sandwiches, crisps & coffee that way we hopefully won't fall victim to the services, even if we do need to stop there.

FVD -Glad your joining the womble train :) I put a massive £50 to my total the other day for a market research interview. I've done two now for my business fuel provider. They seem to like doing research :) roadkill goes up and down but always worth looking.

Have a great day all. Hugs to all who need them.

Morning everyone. It's been far too long since I've posted on here, but it's so lovely to see some very familiar names. I'll try and catch up with people's situations soon. I wish everyone well and good vibes

I must get back on the wagon. I've been very good but I know posting on here makes me better :p

    My list for weekend:
Bought a desk from Mr t online with club card vouchers. Bonus was it was reduced in sale to £12, so go it for £10 of points including delivery. We can sell our current desk and put this in its place. It's smaller and will help with space
Washing done on cheep leccy overnight now drying on line
Emptied dishwasher done on cheap leccy
    Food from stores
Meal plan for week based on what we have - list for some veggies and fruit - we've been tracking spend for 2 months and it's shocking  need to get this in check.
Free drink and cake tomorrow at JL with voucher when I go to collect birthday present (bought with money from present fund)
Put high chair and stair gates on local fb site
Find some goods to ebay - it's been a while but needs must
Contact some people about my own business opportunity

Enjoy the sunshine everyone - it's beautiful here in the midlands ::)

    Morning all,

Thanks for the start Dnms, and for asking after me. I survived the class! I know that once I've done things the anxiety sorts itself out, I've been particularly bad with it recently but probably a bit of PMT too. When the instructor was giving the instuctions for what we had to do, I teared up and thought I wasn't going to be able to do it but didn't give in to it so I'm pleased with myself. I hope that your dgd is feeling better.

Ally, Hope you enjoy your run. I know for me the days were I feel really low are the days I need to exercise. It gets me going. Not always easy though.
Bob, hope you have a lovely day at the christening, (ours haven't been christened either) Glad to hear that you have had a good week workwise. The class was a synergy circuit class, its based around a rig and theres lots of different stations set up and you do the exercise for 30 secs then get a 15 sec break to move on to the next station. Then they add in lots of body weight exercises too etc, it was torture but I can tell that I had a good workout as my muscles are very sore this morning! Walking down the stairs was an issue this morning!
Jonno you sound very organised this morning!

I was out last night with 5 of the mums from school as I was asked to organise a meal out, I wasn't really looking forward to it as my moods been low etc but I am glad I went. My friend said her hubby would take us, saving the cost of a taxi :) when I arrived at her house she had a bottle of fizz opened ready for us too. She also bought my first drink at the restaurant too (she insisted as she'd missed my birthday). My evening of laughter, good food and gossip cost me £24 including 2 course meal, a tip, other drinks, shared taxi home. I really enjoyed but I'm glad I don't do it very often as I didn't get home til 12.30 this morning and Daniel (my 6yr old) decided that he didn't want any more sleep at 6am this morning!! I'm shattered :)

Not exactly sure of todays plans, we were meant to be going to play tennis at the free courts in the park but we've had a little bit of rain (although nice again now, but the courts are a bit slippery when wet)
We also still have the vue cinema vouchers that we got from nectar points to go see the minions movie, that we could use.
The kids were out at a karate grading course last night until 9pm (ready for a grading tomorrow) ds2 is usually in bed by 7.30 at the latest and with him getting up at 6 this morning I'm expecting grumpy boy. So may go to the cinema later to distract him, we'll see.

    My little list,
    Swagbucks
    Luckyphone
    Fpl
Pick up library book that ds1 ordered
    That's it for now!

    Have a good day all
Following :money: to keep us debt free :j

    Hi All

Third time of trying to post as internet keeps crashing. Joy of Wales life!

So, DD has mucked out poultry.
I have picked blackcurrants and we will make XMAS gift jam, so organised.
I have done a large double batch of bolognaise sauce, total cost £7 for around 30 portions. Big runny but tasty and cheap. DS will be grateful when he is hungry.
Need to bake as egg glut, which is amazing as only 3 poor hens survived the last fox raid and dog disaster! My poor chucks!

Have a good MSE day all.

Afternoon everyone, hope you're all having a great Saturday!

I've been on a little busy today, trying to still sort the other bedroom out.

    my jobs for today
defrost freezer - in the process of
Get rid of broken rocking chair - done
    Clean fridge/freezer
Sort out boy clothes for sister in law
Sort out presents from the children

I've left my list deliberately short as I'm feeling the baby weight today and will probably need to keep resting inbetween jobs.

Have a good day, everyone :)

    And the list goes on:

    :grinheart Clear out my emails.

:grinheart Do the SIM card shuffle* on our broadband.

:grinheart Re-listed un-sold item on eBay. Did not re-list it for a tenth of the asking price as eBay suggested?!

:grinheart Check OH's financial calculations. She sometimes accidentally miscalculates.

    :grinheart Do August's budget.

    _______________________________________

    SIM card shuffle:

*Found a really creative solution to our 15MB per month broadband account problem that's been bugging us for months. We never have enough data each month but this is the only company that can supply us as we can't have a line to our property as we live in Timbuktu so our internet comes through a mobile Wifi Dongle device with a SIM card in it. We are already on the package with the largest amount of data so we can't pay more for more data. Local library is miles away. And if we run the internet through our mobiles we'll be broke. Solution: Take out a second SIM card only contract that'll give us 10MB per month with the same company. Then, 60% of the way through the month, take the 15MB/month SIM card out of the device and insert the 10MB/month SIM card. Thus we now have 25MB per month. (We're still paying less for these two contracts than most people pay for unlimited broadband because I haggled.)

    Hi All

Have just enjoyed reading the thread and catching up with everyone.

Blackcurrant jam is made. 15 jars. and 3 jars in odd shapes for eating now. Need to label and store. Am a bit cross with myself as morning started very overcast and now is a perfect drying day sunny and windy. Sigh with frustration at not getting it right again!

Kitchen looks like a bomb site, jam everywhere, think there may even be some on ceiling!

Am going to take book outside for a rest and ponder next thing to do whilst it is so lovely.

Enjoy your day everyone. Like the sound of the cinema, wish ours was nearer.

    Maria.
