2 Ipods on 1 PC?

I have had a Ipod for over a year now and my wife has decided she wants to buy an Ipod Nano. Does anyone know if its possible to effectively have 2 different user/itunes accounts so that she doesn't have to have all my preloaded music and vice versa?

Wife is finally getting round to buying an Ipod. Does anyone know how well turning off the automatic updating works as ideally I would like to just keep the one user account on XP. In terms of how I would like it to work would be to have the full catalogue of my music and then say Ipod A and B columns where you tick depending on whether you want the song on each Ipod or not. Any help much appreciated

You won't have any problems having 2 ipods on one computer, but probably best to have playlists set-up for each one to sync automatically...
  • 4 of us share our pc and we all have very differing musical tastes, we manually manage our ipods/itunes, we create a seperate folder in itunes for each of us and put in that folder what we want, its just a simple thing to dragand drop that folder into the ipod thats connected

Thanks all for your advice. I think I understand what I will need to do by bascially connecting my ipod 30gb and turning that to manual update, and then connect my wifes ipod nano and drag across specific tunes (probably from her own playlist). Just wondering when I connect her ipod will my pc/itunes pick it up ok - i.e. it won't try and install itunes again or do something else weird??

OK slight change of plan. I don't want to simply have a playlist for my wife as on her ipod it will just display a long list of tunes. I would therefore like to creat a seperate folder for her ipod. How do I do this?

On a slightly different subject I just tried to manually update mine, and although could view my main music library I couldn't work out where I need to go to delete/remove tunes of the ipod only. Sorry for the dumb questions...

Sorry for yet another post. I must appear like a right flamin idiot:cool: . Anyhow I reckon I have figured out how to manually update my ipod and also by clicking on the triangle (to access the Ipod menu) by the side of its name be able to add/delete tracks at will. Therefore I guess all that I am worried about is when I eventually come to connect my wifes new nano up. Will it ask any weird questions? Install itunes again? I am hoping it will just ask me to name it, ask whether to automatically or manual update (to which I will select manual), and then drag music from my itunes library on the new Ipod as I wish. Thanks for the patience.....
  • ok not quite sure you are going to be able to do exactly what you want..but lets try. you will always have a list in the itunes liberary of ALL music, but if you select in top left hand corner of itunes menu "create new folder" you can call that what ever you want and put as many playlists in it as you want, so make your play lists and pop them in the appropiate folder ( we have mine, hubbys and 2 daughters)

connecting new ipod..will not install itunes again but may ask you if you wish to update your version of itunes if not most up to date version avail.
i think it willl then give you the set up option where you can get to the manually set bit ( like you have done for yours) if it doesnt and it tries to update with all the playlists the best thing is to let it, then change the setting and then delte what it has put on and start from sratch again putting on what you want.. not sure here which way it goes but think you will be able to change it before it does anything, dont remember getting all kids stuff on mine when i got it
hope this helps, im not a techie person and have managed to work out all ours, if i can you can

yes as said nothing nasty happens with 2 ipods.i run 3 from my itunes.2 nano's and one 60gb ipod video with no problems.
ipod syncs automatically as it can hold all my music and the nano's have their own playlists
