Movements/Protests against house prices

Options
Hi,

I just wondered if anyone was aware of any groups / movements who are against the state of current house prices in the UK?

With the Government not bothering to build new houses and inflating house prices with this Help To Buy scheme.....there are surely many disgruntled people out there.

As I have a hefty deposit after saving and saving for years and I am struggling to find a property because of the ridiculous house prices in my area....I am very frustrated that for £200,000 in my area (my maximum limit) my options are very limited.

I would love to know if there are people out there who have or plan to protest about this subject?

I am fed up that we as a nation cannot build houses. I don't understand it, it's not hard.

There is this supposed 20% discount 'STARTER HOME SCHEME' for first time buyers under 40... which sounds great, but the Government will likely take the !!!! with this scheme and either not go through with it or not build these houses until homes have gone up another 20%....

Us First time buyers need this 20% discount now! Not in 3-5 years time when house prices have gone up by that much!

It's time to protest about house prices. They are taking the !!!!....

Almost half a million for a standard 4 bed home in Aldershot - YOU ARE TAKING THE !!!!.

Half a million for a 2 bed apartment next to Guildford station - YOU ARE TAKING THE !!!!.

There's the clue- next to the station. You could be at Waterloo before you've finished your toast. There are cheaper parts of Guildford...

This may be hard to comprehend but there is more to the UK than the South East.

There is no right to home ownership. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it. Do you post the same complaints on the Ferrari message boards?

Home ownership has always been reserved for the wealthier.

House prices are only as high as they are because people can afford it. You can't. Instead of moaning about the government, how can you change things for the better to realise your home ownership dream? Work harder? Career change? More training? Think positively, rather than blaming.

This may be hard to comprehend but when your family, friends and job are all in the south east It's very difficult to move your entire life to another part of the country.

Holiday Haggler I've been Money Tipped!
People have choices - we moved to a better location which had more value for money 20 miles away from family and friends. We're lucky enough to have made new ones!

I know there are cheaper parts of Guildford than a £550,000 2 bed apartment...that goes without saying. I'm just making the point that prices get that ridiculous around here.

Maybe some people don't think £550,000 for a 2 bed apartment right next to a station is that much....I do.

Not really sure who would prefer to spend £550,000 on an apartment when they could get a house. Maybe someone minted who already has a house and wants a 2nd pad.

I am guessing you are not very understanding of the current house price situation.

I think most people would agree house prices are over-inflated and many talk about prices being about 20%, maybe even 30%+ over-valued.

My parents bought their house for 7x the average salary in 1987, today the same house will cost you 15x the average salary.....

House prices are rising 5-10% a year - wages aren't rising that quickly.

All good and well 'encouraging' me to work harder - but chasing down 5-10% annual house price increases is impossible.

Also - I am not sure if you are aware of current interest saving rates.....

I am getting very little return on a decent amount of savings.

Less young people are buying. We are even being referred to as 'Generation rent'.

It's not about people not working hard enough - as you are trying to make out. People save and work hard - me included. The problem is property is overpriced.

If you are happy with the goverment not building houses and inflating house prices with the Help To Buy scheme - I can only assume you own a property. Because not many (if any) would point the finger at hard-working, hard-saving people who are trying to do what they can to purchase a property.

Every other first time buyer is in the same boat but some, like me moved 200 miles away from home to get a better job, more chance of buying a home etc.
Why buy in Guildford? Why not look further out, or on more awkward train lines. It's easy to moan about it being hard in your situation, but look beyond the south east at how it is for others too. At least in the SE there are benefits of more jobs and slightly better pay to other parts of the country. In the SW house prices have gone berserk but good luck getting (a) a decent job / permanent and (b) a decent enough salary.
Yes it's a lot of money but Guildford has always been expensive.
Perhaps channel your frustrations into moving on, accepting you can't afford it and doing what everyone else has to - compromise.
