Recovery tips for RSI/Carpal Tunnel?

I am a computer programmer so need to be on a keyboard/PC for very long periods of time.
I have struggled with RSI/carpal tunnel for many years, but have continued to work semi-successfully by wearing a splint on my hand along with tennis style wrist supports on each wrist underneath.
Any tips for recovery/exercises or good equipment(mouses, keyboards) etc that may help?

I've not used it myself, but both of my parents suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome and both of them had excellent results using exercise putty such as this:

There are different strengths available (I think the video in the ad shows which colour is which strength)0
