Basic bank account question - one accepted, one rejected?

I hold a basic bank account with Nationwide. They accepted me no problem.
I recently attempted to get a basic account with TSB but they declined me (they mislead me into believing this was a BASIC account but in fact it's a 'current basic account' so I guess I was credit checked?)
I was wondering if anyone knew why and which other basic accounts I could apply to in which the application process is the same as Nationwide so I know I will be accepted?
Maybe Nationwide don't carry out a credit check... I don't need, any advice is helpful.
I don't want to keep applying and get rejected so it affects my credit score.
Thanks
Also does anyone know if you can get a savings account with a bank card/online usage without a credit check?
P.S. My credit score is 'GOOD', in the 800's or something. I was defrauded when I was 16, 17, someone made me cash a check for them which is apparently fraudulent and both my bank accounts were closed then (Natwest and Barclays) but my credit report does not have any fraud markers on it. There is one flag I think for unapproved overdraft with Natwest once.

It's cheque in UK.
Why do you need another account in the first place?
Nothing stops you from applying for a second account with Nationwide.
Savings account applications normally don't involve credit checking, but I don't know any decent savings accounts around.0 -
There is comprehensive information about basic accounts on MSE: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/basic-bank-accounts?_ga=1.44850276.1970917942.1424978406
If you have been, even unwittingly, involved in fraud, your credit reference files are only one place where this information might be held. It could also be on CIFAS, you could be listed on National Hunter, and individual banks might have kept a record about any accounts you held with them. Defaults on your credit file obviously do work against you, and some banks might not offer you a basic bank account if you already have one. If I can be nosy: why do you want a second one?
Savings accounts do not get credit checked (the providers may still check your credit files for confirmation of ID). Very few savings accounts come with a debit card. State Bank Of India is the only one I remember that does, and it's an 'online' card only.0 -
