Van hire company sent me huge bill

Unhappy Returned a hired van and been send a HUGE Bill
Hi. Im a newbie here. Im hoping someone can help, Ive got into a bit of a mess over a van hire.

I hired a van through Northgate van hire about 6 weeks ago, I scraped a post that left 2 marks on the van, I pointed this out when it was returned, they advised that my deposit would not be returned for the moment.

Ive been chasing them for ages about a receipt for the deposit, Ive had responses but they all basically say its in hand.

Ive finally received a email from them saying they are keeping my deposit of £250.00 and they want another £750.00 of me.

I didn't take out CDW damage on the van.

I'm on a debt managementicon plan, where do I stand with this.

I'm hoping someone can help as I'm down about this.

Thanks:mad:

What does your contract for hire say? Why did you not get a receipt for the deposit. I would imagine if you damage then you pay. However £1000 for a repair seems very excessive.

2 marks/scratches or dents on the van? £1000 must be considerable damage.

Maybe not. How much is the daily charge? £50 - £70 a day? So they add that onto their losses. Off the road for 5 - 10 days?

£250 - £700 before they start fixing the van.

I doubt it'll have been off the road for 10 days before the work. It'll probably have been back out the same day, to get fixed at some point.

Ask them for a break-down of the bill and proof that that's what it costs.

And look on google for northgate van hire, I think it's a common problem.

In that case the figure they've quoted seems reasonable for hire van/car companies- they tend to overcharge than if you find a small garage to fix yourself as they're also taking into account admin charges etc.

OP best thing you do is consolidate your existing debts and add this one on

They'll have used on at it, but it will be off the road for several days, possibly a week for the repairs and wont be revenue earning in that time.

Two "scratches" could have impacted (ha!) several panels on the van or require the side to be sprayed in its entirety.

They have a duty to carry out the assessments with as much efficiency as possible.

If it was done at all. I hired a van from Northgate a few months ago and it was in a right state. Dents and scratches all over it, some older than others. The top of the roof had a large indentation in the front off-side corner. I took a video, ensuring I had the depot in the background and the radio playing to prove the date and time.

The inspection form, they had given me was blank. When I went back into the office, I challenged them about it and they said, "yeah, don't worry, we know about that." I asked why it wasn't on the inspection form, they said, "that's alright, we'll remember it wasn't you." I refused to take the van, until they had done a thorough inspection and noted down every dent and scratch.

Do They still have your credit card / debit card details and grant of continuous payment authority ?

You might want to worry about that first.
