what to cook in a deep fat fryer

I found a deep fat fryer in a charity shop, it doesn't look as if it has been used. I am beginning to see why as I can't think of what to do with it! (except chips which is why I brought it, but I am not even sure how to do them correctly
) I just remember my Nan making homemade chips in a saucepan and how lovely they tasted.
what do you cook in yours?
Note: I am not worried about calories, although I should be!

Home made chips
Cut your chips
3/4 fill pan with oil, or to the mark
Heat to 140
Blanch chips
That means keep them in the oil till soft through but don't brown them, you may need a lower temp
When all cooked through, drain them on a tray. Increase the temp of the oil to 160 and fry again. Will crisp up lovely0 -
Battered fish do well in the deep fat fryer. Also battered sausages.Breaded fish. Scotch eggs. Don't fill it more than one 3rd full of oil as the oil will deepen a lot as you lower the food in and it bubbles up.0

thanks all
I will try the chips as suggested and do some homemade onion rings to go with them.
its only small fryer (there are only two of us) but it still takes 3ltrs of oil! Depending on how many times I can re-use the oil I don't think it is going to be a very MSE way of cooking.0 -

Filter the cold oil through a sieve lined with kitchen paper to get the gunk that will burn in the oil out
Onions will flavour the oil to some extent. I save my frying oil just for that and use fresh oil for everyday cooking0 -
I triple cook my chips and I think I've now perfected it.
Slice potatoes and boil the chips in water. Drain, lay them on a tray and put in freezer for a couple of hours. Fry on low temperature remove, drain and freeze again. When you actually want to eat the chips remove from freezer and put into hot oil, remove, drain and serve.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

And, if you ask 10 people what oil to use, you'll get 11 suggestions, one of which will be organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. We find corn oil to be the best compromise of cooking temperature, longevity and (lack of) taste, availablity and cost.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Deep fried Mars bars? (If you are truly desperate).
Lots of Indian sweets are deep fried before being shoved in syrup....like deep fried Mars bars, they are not what you might call everyday foods.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
