Protein food /shakes on a budget + other

It is good. Why are you having two shakes a day? Is it to supplement the lack of protein in your diet? Remember these shakes are supplements, not meal replacements.
High protein foods: chicken breast (buy in bulk and freeze), turkey mince/any turkey, eggs, quark, cottage cheese, fish, beef jerky/biltong, beef steak, pork chops, nuts and nut butters, tofu, beans.
If you are following a heavy bodybuilding exercise regime, remember you only need 1.7g protein per kg of body weight. So me, a 57kg female, needs around 97g a day. I usually go slightly over this with one serving of a shake, but for me this is good because of my exercise regime.
I am 70kg so need 119kg and am only maybe hitting 70kg max through diet.
How many eggs can i eat a day they are cheap and cheerful, do they put up cholesterol i heard a long time ago?0 -

Ill do some egg research but in the meantime i found this on the subject of milk:
"Milk is a marvelous complete food that sustains infant cows and humans for the first months of their lives. If you look at the protein quality of milk, its sky high. So why don't bodybuilders and health minded people just drink milk from the cow? Well, calories. Milk directly from the cow is only 20% protein, the rest is fat and carbohydrates. For a bodybuilder to get enough protein from fresh milk they would gain bodyfat at an alarming rate. So what if we took the fat out? Well, lets look at none fat milk, the quality of the protein is just as high and it's protein density is twice as high - 40% of the calories are from protein. Still not great, a mature bodybuilder would still get fat if that were their only source of protein but as I mentioned before, for a very active growing teen this could be a very economical alternative to expensive protein powders. "

I use protein in my diet mainly for recovery after work outs, rather than to bulk up.
I use a mix of lots of different stuff in my diet to give it a bit of variety.
100% peanut butter, Greek yoghurt, chickpeas & beans, mixed nuts, salmon, and occasionally some chicken and every now and then some lean red meat.
I use some Hemp protein as well in some home made vegetable soups.All your base are belong to us.0 -

Eggs don't put up cholesterol unless you're eating hundreds a day - the benefits of the yolk far outweigh any negatives and you'd probably be sick of egg before it does you harm. Three a day is a good amount, that's plenty either scrambled, in an omelette, poached, boiled etc.
What is the rest of your diet like? You should be able to hit 119g easy. Here's what I eat typically every day thereabouts - this is 140g protein alone:
Breakfast:
Oats and two teaspoons of chia seeds mixed with water
Lunch:
Mixed salad (spinach, beetroot, peppers, tomatoes, cucumber) with 100g prawns
Dinner:
200g chicken breast oven cooked with broccoli and green beans
Snacks:
30g mixed nuts, double serving whey made with almond milk, piece of fruit
That amount of chicken, prawns, and whey total 117g protein alone. Any other protein comes from the other food I eat.0 -
The best natural source of protein is hemp. I wouldn't touch whey with a barge pole.
I use hemp protein in my shakes every day. It doesn't taste great but that's where I put some fruit and nut butter in and it does the job.
If you want to go down the shake route go to the main sellers, sign up for their newsletters and you will get regular discount codes. I use myprotein a lot (I have a student discount) and they've had at least one sale every month so far and it's saved me a lot of money.:santa2:0 -
Somewhere on the web a chap has done a comparison of protein powders to work out the most grams per pence cost per serving.
Myprotein came at the top or very near to the top,I can't recall exactly.
