RCI Timeshare - Advice needed
Comments
-
Hi Hotspur
SSB are based in the Isle of Man and certainly all documentation appears to be afiliated to RCI. As for credit card details, I feigned innocence and stated I did not have a CC on holiday with me. This is because they wanted a substantial deposit on the day - and it was the fact that this was so easily waived when I said I couldn't pay it at present that really started the alarm bells ringing. We did sign a DD for a credit agreement but it too has a clearly stated box to fill in to cancel it before 22nd August, and if that, and the agreement itself, is sent recorded delivery, the date of cancellation is taken as being the date it was posted rather than the date received. Still, both with be posted tomorrow so should reach in time. Faxed copies will also be sent tomorrow as well as an email requesting confirmation that they have been received. Likewise my bank will be receiving an instruction not to honour the DD. Hopefully we will have escaped fully with no more cost than a wasted afternoon and two disappointed children who fell in love with the fancy resort.0 -
Sounds like you have it all covered.
As I said above timeshare can be a good thing. If you are still interested then consider getting one in the UK near to a tourist area e.g. London, Oxford, Cambridge, Lake District etc. There aren't many timeshare resorts in the UK so they are in demand by people coming to the UK and the weeks can easily be exchanged for weeks elsewhere in the world through RCI or similar exchange companies. The bonus is you can get to use the facilities and travel doesn't cost the earth.
Hope it works out.0 -

Firstly have a read of the RCI website. Then speak to RCI to see what connection there is between them and SSB Marketing. Then ask why SSB are an Isle of Man company and not an English or UK Company.
You will have great trouble selling whatever you buy for more than a pittance. Often people just walk away as the maintenance costs start to become a burdensome chore. The company have no incentive to try and resell your points or ownership as they normally have plenty of new deals to sell that earn them ££££ more than resales.
Timeshare works well in the US as the resorts are more accessible and plentifu to the indigious populationl. But in the UK the costs of accessing the resorts that you may well want to holiday at make it less attractive. Also you can only arrive on certain dates which means you are restricted for cheap flights. And, if you want someone else to use your points there is often a fee involved to issue a certificate to your guest for the week(s) involved.
I know a few people who have either just ended up paying the maintenance fee as they are unable to resale or have otherwise just surrnedered to save money. Generally these deals are not good value for money. It should tell you something when they are mostly cold sold by touts in holiday destinations.0
