car swap gone wrong

Hello all well where do I start...
I swapped my car a few days ago it had a few faults witch I listed,
I swapped it with another car witch also had a few problems listed, door pins had gone and needed new file sensor, I thought this would be a easy fix witch I was happy with doing!
anyways I swapped it got his log book (witch he hadn't sent of as he only had had the car for a week so previouse owner had signed it he signed over the other guys signuture though)
but I still have my log book as I sent it of to dvla to change car colour (still waiting on it back)
but I drove the car back after the swap about 500yards from where I live the car cut out?? Don't know why? So pushed it home, left it, went out next day not start at all? It try's to fire but it wont start? He said it had a full tank only drove it a hour if that? No way it could all be gone? I removed the fule sender unit in the back seat to look into the fule tank? Guess what! Empty! So went got a jerry can filled it up still wont start?! Looked under the hood and to top it off the alternator belt had vanished and there was no idler for the belt! Do charged the batter to see if that would fix it, guess what no go! Contacted the swapper who just pretty much said "The Deal Was Done" I'm not getting my car back!
had someone come out and look at my car and guess what? It needs a easy 1k-2k spent to fix it! Witch I cant afford! I swapped for cheeper running costs and tax and insurance, as I couldn't afford my motor hardly!
but now I've been told the car should not be driven as its a death trap! The frame its self is bent, the engine has different car parts all chucked on it, its had leacks and water damage, also looks like at some point the rear window was poped off to be robbed or something, also under the hood there are wires all over the place just lose wires, the guy Sai these could cause a fire, nothing about the car is orginal all the inside is a different interea such as seats even the steering colom cover! Non I orginal! Its a car with bits of anything and everything chucked on it! Also the front bumper is really lose witch he pointed out if it was to cone off and slip under your front wheels it would kill you as youd pretty much not be able to stop,
does anyone have any idea where I stand? I have his log book witch I have not sent off yet, but I still have the log book to my car in my name? Where do I stand? Can I take any action? As you cab guess I've contacted the guy and guess what? No reply, what are my rights?
many thanks!

It's always a good idea when buying or 'swapping ' a car to actually view the car you will be getting. Then you'd heve seen all those loose wires, loose windows dodgy engine parts and mis-matched interior and declined the deal.0

The belt was there, the wires where tooked out of sight only when he moved them did I realise they where lose and all over the place, and the frame I couldn't see as It was uner the engine and I'm not exactly a car part wiz0

In a private sale, you have no rights to reject the car after purchase. You see it, inspect it (which you have failed to do in any meaningful way), test drive it (also not done?), then buy or don't buy. The vendor doesn't have to volunteer any info about the car at all, or describe any faults-it's up to you to ask. All he is obliged to do is answer any questions truthfully.
What he can't do is sell an unroadworthy vehicle, so how long has it got left on the MOT?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Are any of the 'faults' MOT failure points? Any advisories on the MOT?
But realistically you have no comeback whatsoever. Caveat emptor. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

The general public or businesses in general
OP, forget about the seller, you made the mistake, not them. Man up, take it on the chin and move on.0 -
Rule: Never buy from a witch.
As any fule no.0 -
The frame is bent but its not exactly a part of the car? If its not a part of the car take it off.
Its got a dodgy fuel sensor, Maybe thats why it wont start?
Sounds like the engine may have been out or some major work, that doesnt make the car dangerous or unroadworthy. Cables not tied up properly, get yourself a pack of cable ties.
All the parts are not original? As long as they are fitted properly that shouldnt be an issue as long as you declared these mods to your insurance.
Lots of cars are built on the same platform, so its possible to fit Renault parts in your Nissan or Jaguar parts in your Ford. Not a problem at all.
The £1000 - £2000 repair bill is scaremongering, You can replace the engin and gearbox and bring most of the mechanics into excellent condition for the lower part of that price.
Rear window popped or robbed? My sister bought a 3 month old Focus estate, I fitted a towbar to it a few weeks later and found glass in the spare wheel well and behind some boot trim.
These things happen, you dont assume it means the engine will suddenly explode.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

why didnt you check the car 1st.
Getting it checked after is no good.
sorry you dont (and to be honest shouldnt) have any comeback - it was up to you to check it out. the "faults" you mention sound obvious even to a non-car person.
fix it, scrap it, sell it on and move on.GC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!0
