I have a few credit cards which are in use and one card which is not in use, am I better off closing the account if I am not using the card or is it better to keep the account active ? I am worried it might affect my credit rating if I do close the account?

Two many unknowns.
If you other cards don't carry big balances (compared to the limits), then generally it's better to cancel.0
