Ovo >>> What do you call the man who comes to read your smart meter?

A smart meter reader or an unsmart meter reader.

Man called today and left a card. Now what was the point of Ovo's installing a smart meter?

There is a requirement for all metres to.be read every 2 years - smart or not. A check for meter tampering.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Surplus to requirements? Officially, it's a 'meter safety check'.

All meters get looked at, including smarts. Many of the smarts are not communicating .when smarts are first installed they can be read for the first quarter, then maybe once every two years or in BG case, every five years.
To the OP, have you found out if you can switch back to a credit meter ( where you will pay over 25% less ) or move to another supplier other than Ovo or Utilita, without getting lumbered with a hundred quid meter exchange cost ?..maybe not such a smart move getting a Liberty smart meter as no one else can support it
  • Hi,

well if your smart meter wasn't working, he would be a dumb meter reader. ;)

    Thank you, sacsquacco.

The install and follow-up has been far from straight forward. But Ovo is responding well to my complaint. I remain on the credit tariff and did not have the meters installed with a view to moving onto pre-payment.

As as yesterday my Smart Gateway mysteriously and suddenly burst into action. The good thing about Ovo is that I do not need an in house device: instead the information is displayed on a computer screen and historic data is saved on the Ovo server. Now looking good and likely to make me stick with Ovo for a long time.
