The sooner you inform your Insurer the better as this enables them to manage the claim from the earliest possible time.

If you were at fault it can greatly reduce their costs
  • Make sure you right down everything that happened, whilst it is fresh in your mind. Do not admit liability. This is for the insurance company to sort this one out. Important too, as so many do claim for whiplash injuries. Inform your insurance company ASAP.

    Hi Guys,
    Thank you for the feedback.

Spoke to the owner of the other car who initially demadned £1xxx to get his car fixed and while negotiating agreed for less than half the amount. I told that person that your car is over 13 years old and i dont think it would cost that much to get a dent removed. A few days later I got a quote from that person off a garage for £2000 plus parts and repairs. I have decided to go down the insurance route.

I have informed my insurance company about this.

My excess is £300. What will happen now ? Can I pay the excess and get my car repaired? What happens if the other party wins the claim, I beleive I still have to pay the excess? Does that mean I can get my car repaired since I am paying £300. If the claim is in my favour do I have the option of getting my car repaired for free?

    Please advise?

You will only pay the excess if you claim for your own repairs.

I don't see how this accident could be found in your favour.

Since you have now claimed on your insurance get your car fixed properly via the insurance. If you end up getting it done yourself you will in effect end up paying twice.

OK you will have your excess to pay but a portion of your NCB is already gone and your premiums will rise anyway.

    Unless you've got protected NCB.

If you've claimed for damage to your car as well as notifying the insurance company of the other driver/vehicle details then you can leave it up to the insurance company to get your car fixed. They will tell you how and when (you don't have to accept the repairer they propose but it sounds like you probably don't know of any better options).

You will only pay the excess once so you might as well get your car properly repaired at the insurer's expense.

You see now why you should always hand things over to the insurance company. They are used to dealing with spivs and chancers and if this guy is claiming for a lot more than his repairs will really cost they will know how to deal with it.

Plus, of course, it is a condition of your insurance policy that you must notify the company immediately of any incident that might give rise to a claim, even if you don't intend to claim yourself.

Have informed the insurance company 10 days back.

They are trying to find out details from the third party.

Called the number on the policy and it went to a broker who says they deal with the insurance on behalf of Ageas Insurance.

3 days later received a call from Ageas and they took all the details again.

10 days later , received a letter from Ageas asking to call and provide the details.

Just getting a bit fed up.

If you have made a claim then get on to the claims manager at your insurer and ask why they have not got on with the repairs.

They should be repairing your car under your insurance (assuming you have comprehensive cover) straight away and sorting out the third party in due course.
