Permitted Development Chances

Hi,
First post here so please move this if this isnt allowed/wrong forum.
I am looking at having a double storey extension to the side of my house, I am wondering if this would fall into permitted development. Initial thoughts were that it would, but upon further reading there is talk of a 7m standoff between the rear boundary.
Now my bit of land is odd shaped as its two house that are semi detached but on opposite streets, asin corner houses.
Now the back of the house is attached to next doors side, but the side of the house is actually the back, asin rear drive garage etc. Which would class as back and side?
Could i move my front door to the side of the house so the side is now classed as the back?
Sorry if im not making too much sense and I will try to answer any questions.
Have attached a rough sketch of what i mean (edit: havent attached a sketch as new members are not allowed to post links)
Thanks

I can't really gather what you're describing in detail, but there's nothing bad about applying for planning permission. I certainly wouldn't go to the expense of moving the front door to avoid it!
You can put in for pe-application advice from the planning office, or if you're really lucky, they'll hold free surgeries where you can go and look at google maps and streetview and discuss the possibilities.
With unusual layouts like yours it can be that things you expect aren't PD, but also that some quie strange things are.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The 'front' of your house for planning purposes will be the side abutting the road: moving the front door 90 degrees won't alter that.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
