Clamping threats

Well, well, well. We've seen plenty of examples where signs threatening clamping are still present, having been that way since October 2012. But this?

This hotel is next to a popular beauty spot, and the nearby road fills up with people who don't want to pay in the National Trust car park, but making threats of an illegal action nearly 3 years after it became illegal is a bit much.
Maybe I'll pop in next time I am passing and ask the manager what he thinks he's doing. Or maybe I'll just park there and see what happens. There's no PPC operating, so I am guessing it's just and idle threat.

Personally, I would leave it there. If the owners are using this as a means of stopping fly-parking and it works - excellent. It beats getting in a PPC and, of course, we don't condone fly parking, do we?
But if the owners did clamp, then that's a different matter. :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Let's hope nobody drops a complaint to Trading Standards or the licensing board!0

I can't see anything much wrong with that, just as no-one has ever taken any action over signs saying "Trespassers will be prosecuted". In fact there's a newish housing development just up road from me where the signs say "Illegal parking will be prosecuted", and I agree with GD: nonsense and impossible it may be, but if it works it's much better than using a PPC!Je suis Charlie.0

I agree it's better than using a PPC but threatening criminal action is a bit different to "Trespassers will be prosecuted". What if the sign said unauthorised parkers will have their tyres slashed or maybe their legs broken ?"The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis." - Dante Alighieri0 -

Not so long ago it would say 'Trespassers will be shot'!
When I was a kid the local landowner (and unbending magistrate) would fire his 12 bore into the air when anyone was seen walking on his fields.
I always used to win the 100 yards sprint at the school sports day! :rotfl:Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Frankly, if I was the hotel owner, I would clamp one of my own cars on the forecourt prominently to make it even more scary.0

What if it did?
Don't see the problem really so long as they have no intention of doing it. I'm pretty laid back about "Trespassers will be shot" too, although obviously the more outlandish the threat the less likely it is to be effective!Je suis Charlie.0 -

"Hmmmmm... the odds of him having TWO clamps must be quite high, and he's used his clamp already on that car over there. I think I'll park here, I'll be OK."Je Suis Cecil.0
