Advice needed for Storage Heaters - HELP!

Hi Everyone,

I've found a really nice flat to rent. It's on the ground floor, has high ceilings, double glazing, cavity wall insulation, and an EPC rating of 68.

However, it has storage heaters rather than central heating and I need some advice.

I want to know whether it's going to be

a) very expensive to heat, and to what extent.
b) really cold in winter no matter what I do
c) whether it would be cheaper to go for a flat with a lower EPC rating but has gas central heating.

any advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

Rich x

  • Band D is poor and would be more expensive and less comfortable than band C - regardless of which heating system you use. The issue is not heating type but insulation value. The artificial 47 SAP points awarded for a condensing boiler if you went to the expense of installing one would do nothing for the existing poor insulation values.

Using NSH's and an immersion heater on E7 (which I assume is the metering system) should not be much more expensive than gas CH and DHW: it's the cheapest form of all electric heating.
No one can tell you how efficient the heating will be or whether E7 will suit your lifestyle.

I have an NSH in a 1 bed 15th floor flat band C, i used just under 4000 night rate units.

I also had to use a normal heater on the night when the heaters ran out of heat.

Your flat might be cooler than mine as i dont have high ceilings.

You could look on sites to see what the cheapest E7 tariffs are and use my 4000 units as a guide.
