Go through insurance or pay privately?
Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice please. I accidentally reversed into someone in a car park (bad weather, didn't see them but still my fault). Dented their wing. Question is - do I sort it privately or through my insurer? My NCD is protected but I'd like to save myseld a massive insurance hike. I've informed them.
Will it make a difference if I pay privately? I know my premium will increase regardless, but will it be less if I pay privately? They've already been in touch with him to arrange his car to be collected so it can be looked at and to give him a rental car. Surely these costs I'll end up paying?
Any input appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes, best go through your insurance. The hire car costs will no doubts dwarf the cost of the repairs.0

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
He hasn't had the rental yet, so I'm guessing it could be cancelled?
Is it commonplace to take a car away and provide a rental?0 -
Its already in the insurance companies hands - let them deal with it now.
if you wanted to pay the guy to have his wing fixed privately then the time to do that was a chat at the roadside before anyone contacted any insurer.GC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!0 -
Thanks.
Having spent the morning at the hospital receiving very bad news I was in an absolute state. We did discuss it then, it just so happens that as I was honest and informed the insurers they've taken it upon themselves.0
