Interested in this thread as we moved to Melbourne 7 years ago and believe we have a claim on a mortgage from early 1990's. We completed the template letters enclosed here (thanks very much) and also completed the banks PPI claims forms to be told "unable to find any accounts in your names, so cancelling claim". What are our next steps? Being in Melbourne makes communication difficult and we're considering using a recovery form.
If the bank have no details after all this time, and you have none, no claims company can magic up the data for you.

You could send a SAR+ £10 to the bank to see if have any details at all about you.

You have the same communication options as someone in the UK - claims are not dealt with at branch level.

Most mortgage insurances are not built into the mortgage. So, even if you had the account numbers of the mortgage, it doesnt mean they would find the insurance.

One of the reasons most MPPI complaints fail is that most MPPI is set up correctly (monthly standalone direct debit). That is how PPI should be set up. Another is that a mortgage is a serious long term debt with lifestyle changing consequences if it goes unpaid. MPPI is considered more important than other types of PPI. Indeed, today, MPPI is one of only two types of PPI still retailed.

A claims company does not have access to your personal data. So, if you dont have a record and the lender doesnt have a record (which is not unreasonable given the timescale) then a claims company is not going to find anything. Your data is not in the public domain.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.
  • Because my inlaws were told the same thing when they approached the bank directly then as part of a separate cc claim, the mortgage PPI came to light and they were paid out on both. Please remember that some of us aren't as up to date with all the stuff that happens with these claims as you obviously are - that's why we ask questions.
