HB and pension credits

If somebody is in receipt of guarantee pension credits are they exempt from the bedroom tax?

The reason I ask is because I have just checked my new award and they have me down as eligible for a full rent payment with no bedroom tax deducted.

I suspect it may be a mistake on their part and I did try to ring them but I was 14th in the queue so didn't bother to hang on.

Pensioners are not affected by the Bedroom Tax

    Extra support and exceptions

    Pensioners
    • The new rules will only apply to working age claimants.
    • People over the qualifying age for state pension credit or with a partner over that age will be exempt.
    • Current mixed aged couples will continue to be exempt.
As per my previous post, someone in receipt of PCGC would be classed as a pensioner for BT purposes and so would not be affected

If you are eligible for Pension Credit, then you are classed as being of pension age. So you are not subject to the bedroom tax.
