Immersion heater problems

Hi

In our BTL we recently had two new elements replaced on the immersion heater after we had a new fuse box installed and the old elements were tripping out constantly.

Since then, the tenants have had no hot water (saturday). The guys who changed the elements have been back twice and said it should all be working. The elements aren't tripping out anymore and all lights are on to the elements but nothing is heating up. The installer basically said that they should kick in over night but they never do. I don think they know what they are doing as they are a general builder firm who did the refurb in the flat for us.

I am waiting to hear back from the tenant so that we can get someone else in to have a look but I dont know whether to get a plumber or electrician?

Whats the best option in this case. Luckily they have an electric shower and heating is via electric so it is just hot water to taps, but still want to get this sorted ASAP.

You need an electrician to check everything out - if they were just builders / handymen who replaced the elements they have probably connected something up wrong.
  • Twin element sounds like economy seven supply etc one for E7 one for boost is there a timer is it set correctly and working? Did they change the thermostats with elements (most come with them some don’t ) Also cylinder stat? I’d suggest get an electrician to replace /check not a builder ?

Thanks both. They said they checked the timers but nothing is working. Not sure on the thermostats. Will contact an electrician.
  • Most likely they’ve connected only to E7 supply? Electrician would sort it if no re running cables needed less than 10- 20 mins £40 - £60 including call out

You will need to check the supply to the switch and then the immersion heater ie an electrician
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring
