Our son doesn't get an end-of-term report, as he has a full Annual Review each year for his Statement/EHCP.

However, I did want to join in the discussion to say that although the Head does know our son quite well, he doesn't know how his own school runs :D At the Review earlier this year, the Head was full of concern and warnings about how our son would cope with the next year class, as it's all "classroom based" and far more serious. I've since met the teacher of the next class and she told us that they continue with play-based learning, and try to go outside as often as possible so "please could he have waterproofs & wellies again" :rotfl:

    18 pages of A4!!!!!!!

Back in the 6th form in the 1960s, one single sheet of paper, completed by several teachers, comments ranging from just teacher's initials to mini essay.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

    Love it! :rotfl::rotfl:

The 4 year old got a "Wow!" Sticker today. I asked her teacher if it was awarded for managing to be on the orange traffic light every day for week :rotfl: It was actually for writing a legible, coherent story using sentences. I did guess correctly on the theme of her story ....... Frozen ....... obviously :o

That's excellent at 4! I remember one report saying my DD should eat her own fruit at break time and not 'borrow' someone else's .
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

Having 3 DD's have the same teachers throughout Primary school, it was easy to spot all the stock responses, especially on DD1 and DD2 reports, however DD3 latest one is doozy it reads *DD3* is very hardworking and pleasant pupil and Mollie (NOT DD3) will do very well in Year 5.

You can imagine how pleased we are that Mollie will do so well in Year 5, we are however left pondering if our own DD will do so well :-)

My school reports in the 90's were generated from pre written comments compiled into a report by virtue of the teacher drawing a line over a particular number on a lottery style ticket then scanning it into a computer program!

This year a colleague left quite suddenly in October and I picked up around 120 new pupils. I see 90 of them once each week, 20 twice per fortnight (twice one week then not the next one) and a handful once per fortnight. In November I had to assess them all and give them grades for attainment and behaviour, no mean feat when you have only taught them a few times and do not know all of them. In January I had to write full reports for the 90. I had taught them 8 times and they had completed only one main piece of assessed work. It was really tough, and I know I did not do them all justice.

At Parents' Evenings in May, I apologised for the generic nature of many of the reports because I really did not know the kids. By then I had a good grasp of the good, the weak and the lazy and could give meaningful feedback.

Sometimes issues crop up which make the reports less than satisfactory. It is not ideal, but reporting deadlines are always tight, and in a subject where you only see them once each week, an additional lesson can make a huge difference to the information you hold on a given child.

DD's just had her year 7 report and it's such a lengthy tome it must be mostly computer generated. I can't tell for sure though as it's in Welsh and DH hasn't got around to translating it for me yet. I can understand her exam percentages though.

DS is in year 4 and his is three sides of A4 with detail of what he's done in each subject which I find rather sterile, but has a paragraph or two at the end personal to DS and as much as I can't abide the teacher he's had this year, he did seem to get DS pretty much spot on and I was really pleased with the comments he made.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

Youngest had his first college report a short while ago as part of his statement, some of it was pretty generalised and positive in nature (glossing over his difficulties) but one particular report from a tutor got him down to a tee...."Don't really know much about **** and what makes him tick as he is unwilling to have contact with me, never asks for help or clarification, doesn't seem to associate with anyone else and never talks in class, however, his work is always completed on time and to an excellent standard"

When they were all at the same high school, the reports would quite often feature the wrong name of child...sometimes one report would have all 3 names!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
