18185 - New SMS message service

First post here!

I use 18185 and am very happy with it.

Recently noticed that they offer a 1p SMS message service. This covers the UK and alot of other countries. My best mate lives in Italy so I now have a cheap way of sending him an SMS. Only problem - the charge is showing up as 4p per SMS to Italy when it clearly states 1p on their website.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? A couple of "test" sms messages to UK numbers are 1p as stated.

Sent an email to them at the beginning of the week and have heard nothing back yet. I'm guessing they'll be slow to respond or not respond at all.

Reading the newsgroups a few people have reported SMS to Italy are coming up as 4p.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    So it does - http://18185.co.uk/sms.php
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

It did clearly state 1p (as mentioned elsewhere) so I'm assuming it's just been changed. Funny to note how every country on the list is 1p apart from Italy ;-)

On the front page of the site this is what I'm reading:-

International text messages for only 1p!We just launched our brand new 18185 SMS Service! We offer great discount rates for both our National and International Text Messaging services.

For example, it's possible to send a Text Message within the United Kingdom for only 1 p/message.

But it gets even better: we also reduced the SMS-rates for loads of international destinations, so you can send an SMS to every country for only 1 p/message!

    For example:

    China 1 p/message
    France 1 p/message
    Germany 1 p/message
    Greece 1 p/message
    Hungary 1 p/message
    Italy 1 p/message
    Poland 1 p/message
    Portugal 1 p/message
    Spain 1 p/message
    Thailand 1 p/message
    United States 1 p/message

4p is still a very good deal and it now means I can keep in touch with my mate by SMS at a fraction of the cost.

They are unlikely to promote cheaper sms for Italy, as there are abuse issues that will be encountered, as they did when Voipbuster had free messages a while back (and does now for some destinations when sent from their mobile client, or from 1 cent from the website)
