O/S Daily Thursday 16th July 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, light patchy cloud – so hopefully sun will get out at some point. Dry underfoot now. Washing ready to go out on the line shortly.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will wake DS2 shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night ended up being a naughty takeaway – enjoyed by us all though as can’t remember the last time we had it, but expensive. Tonight will be the pork steaks that I defrosted for last night, we’ll have potatoes, veg and gravy to accompany.

I’m now on days’ off, but have to go into work today for a meeting, so need to fit my jobs around that and also speaking to DS2’s school – who we’re not very happy with at the moment – he asked for help from one of his teachers’ was told she would help him in a minute, then he was left sitting with no assistance, and at the end of the lesson because he hadn’t done anything, he got into trouble and was given an after school detention! DH found this out yesterday whilst I was out and has already been to the school and made a complaint, I’m supposed to be getting a telephone call this morning – but I’ll be on the phone at 9am wanting an explanation. I appreciate it’s difficult with a class full of children but if he asked for help and was told to wait a minute then he didn’t get the help he needed to be punished for that it’s not on! We’ll see what they have to say this morning, no doubt they now have had time to make up a story!

I need to get all the washing, drying and ironing, and housework done.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning one and all. Yesterday we had wall to wall sunshine all day but today our forecast is down to sunny spells, lots of cloud and heavy rain tonight. But at least remaining warm!

Just one DGD up at the moment so it's quite peaceful until the other two get up. Kitty (4) is making me some breakfast in her kitchen! Bless her.

Off shopping this morning when we have got them to school. Sainsbobs today as I have £7.50 off a £50 spend and over 1,000 bonus Nectar points worth over £5. So taking advantage to stock up a bit and giving Ald* a miss today.

It was a lovely leavers' service for year 6 yesterday and I managed to hold back the tears this time! They were all presented with a plaque with a photo of all the leavers on it which will be nice to keep.

Nice to see you back Csarina and how I envy you with no stairs! Hope you settle in well. Nmic I hope you get the school problem sorted. It's not on getting punished for something DS asked for help with. HH where I worked the practice nurse was the one to speak to about diets, maybe yours would be more help than that b***** doctor. I can't believe he expected you to spend all that money on processed food.

Have a good day all whatever you are up to. Take care and ((((((HUGS))))) to those in need xxx

Overcast again here today, not sure if it's going to rain or not.
Fish fed, hubby has a cuppa, I'm just having water as my poor tum is playing up again.
I'm at the half way point with my c2c blanket, this evening I'll be watching youtube to find out how to decrease.
I'm picking tomatoes, cucumber & lettuce every day now from the garden & runner beans every other day.
TA, our practise nurse wasn't a lot of help, she said, no bananas, no carbs, no sugar, no fat, no dairy, no salt, no alcohol & lots of bananas to keep my potassium level up, I don't have a lot of faith in someone who contradicts herself in the same sentence.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning all,

Bit overcast here today but meant to be brightening up later on with storms tonight ! Have got a few loads of washing to do today so will get them done early and on the line.

Had roast pork last night which was really lovely mum came up for dinner and bought a peach and cashew nut crumble which was surprisingly delicious. Tonight we will have cold meat chip and peas, so nice and easy.

Not working now till Saturday so will have a good clean through downstairs today and will do upstairs tomorrow.

Marie your poor dd it must be so hard for her, not too long to go now though and what a prize she will have at the end xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

Hester I'm afraid I'd be ignoring that doctor and just eating more veg and a couple of bananas every day. How can a GP recommend the cambridge diet when it's not real food and one of the plans is as low as 440 cals per day? How long were you expected to eat like that for?

A couple of my exercises have to be done while I'm lying flat on the floor. I'm struggling with these because Scampi thinks it's time to wrestle :D

Coco Chick is broody again, I've had to shut her out of the shed. She's protesting very loudly :D

I put quite a bit of weight on when I first had sciatica – I just couldn't move around much. Since visiting the osteopath I've lost most of it. I jumped on the scales yesterday, I've put 2lbs back on. So I'm going to keep a note of everything I eat for a few days and go from there.

I'll get some washing done then we'll go out for a walk. I have to get some work done later. Nothing else is planned so I'll just be pottering about.

HH what a shame your practice nurse isn't very helpful I am lucky where I am as Lorraine (p/Nurse)is really lovely and I go once a fortnight and get weighed in, and we have a natter about how its going and what I can do to stay on the right tracks.

Basically its just common sense isn't it.
Lots of veg cut back on the spuds though. I have soup and crackers with tomatoes or cucumber on top I stopped eating bread about a year ago and substituted it for rice cakes or crackerbread instead.I honestly don't miss bread at all.
Breakfast is usually bran flakes with a chopped banana on top, or porridge. I have never taken sugar so that's not a problem, gallons of water to drink :) HM soup at lunchtime followed by a piece of fruit and dinner time I just have maybe chicken with salad ,in fact almost anything with salad (good job I like salads) :):):)Sunday dinner at DDs I enjoy the full monty once a week as a treat with roast and veggies and even a small yourkshire pud :)
I cut up fruit and mix with plain yoghurt for puddings or even just a snack when you get that 'hollow' feeling Lorraine says if you lose around a pound a week on average you will keep it off. She is a great believer in small steps, and not whopping great amounts to unload as she says it will stay off longer if its gradual and she's right

I have lost over two stone in the past 18 months and its stayed offand I am slowly starting to lose it again after my stay in hospital.

She said no dieting for 6 weeks following an op. as you need to build yourself back up again. She is such a sensible lady and makes you feel so positive about weight loss.

It didn't go on overnight and won't come off overnight either, I certainly would never think about using shakes etc for dieting I remember having shakes when I was having chemo and although it did what it had to then, I certainly wouldn't dream of going back to them now.
I'd be inclined to look for another doctor myself .

Today I am soup making :) for lunches. I will make some celery to use up the remainder in the fridge and I may also make some carrot and coriander as I have some sad looking carrots that are in need of using up as well. My gardener Mick is due today so I will make sure he has a mugfull as he is partial to HM soup :) He makes such a nice job of keeping my garden looking tidy and is worth every penny bless him
Hope you all have a great day, what ever you are doing.

    Morning everyone.

An unexpected bright sunny start to the day. Forecast is for rain but I'll take the sunshine instead.

Got my weekly two hours work this morning, last one for the summer. I have to collect a parcel from the depot which needs to be signed for and then collect some dry cleaning which was meant to be ready on Monday but wasn't.

This afternoon the joiner is coming to build my wall unit for the utility room (at last) and if the weather is still fine I'll get the lawnmower out to do the back garden.

These are the plans...let's hope they work out.

    Happy Thursday everyone.

HH - That's nonsense, I hope you can get a second opinion soon. I went on the Cambridge Diet years ago and after 4 days fainted on the train, I went home and ate 6 weetabix!
csarina - Glad you're feeling better, take it easy though.
Good luck today tired mum, whatever the outcome you will feel better when it's all over.
nmlc - Hope the school issues are sorted soon.

Hugs to those not feeling too good.

Well, I'm back from Holland. Had a fantastic time and saw lots of new places. DD and I took a trip to Ghent and Brugge for a couple of days, both beautiful cities but Brugge a little busy with tourist groups. DS2 had got us bikes so we could potter around and visit the beach. His flat is coming along really well, I could settle there myself! Unfortunately I ate out far too much, as is the European way, so back to meal planning and lots of veggies.

The grass was so long it took me about 2 hours to cut it yesterday, it was still quite wet but looks good now. The veggies are taking over! Lots of peas on, the toms have flowers, DD has eaten all the courgettes that were ready and there are loads more growing, carrots are about knee height and I can see the beetroot - anyone know when they are ready?

House full of builders and plasterers, the living room is being plastered as we speak, very messy work but it needs to be done as I am getting a bit fed up of looking at the bare walls. The hall, stairs and landing are due to be stripped of plaster and re-done next week. That will be worse!

Cloudy with sunny spells today, yesterday's fantastic weather meant I could get all the washing dried, ironed and put away, the hall window and door curtains are on the line today.

    Take care. XX

HH....from my experience of seeing dietitians with my lads, they need you to have kept a food diary with symptoms as well.
you might start while you are waiting for an appointment? And there might be patterns you can identify that will help straight away.
My late MiL had it.....very painful....poor you!

But you need an eating plan just for you.....not off the shelf.

Tru.....getting anywhere with that mischievous dog yet?

Chin up tired mum! As least it will be over...hope your union stands up strongly for you.
