Way over the top for simple backup needs.

I keep a backup of my photos at my dad's house, just in case of a house fire!
For data that I consider really important I do both, ZFS NAS that's backed up to a single HDD that's stored off site. It's all a question of how important is non corruption (or loss) of your data and what steps you want to take to get that risk low as possible.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
As you are a thief it doesn't really matter - just steal new copies online if you lose them.
And most new radios or speakers or amplifiers nowadays have an USB input in addition to an aux. Choose whichever sounds good in the shop.0 -

Now I've off loaded a large number of LPs to a local charity shop, I've got the collywobbles.
In terms of keeping your "collection" safe, you need to store it on multiple media (you can get 1Tb external disks for well under £50), at least one copy of which should be kept off-site (e.g. at a friend's house). If you have any digital photographs that you don't want to lose, you probably should do the same with them.Philip0 -
Simple - it's not safe until you have two copies. That disk could fail tomorrow (unlikely).0

Yes, unless I buy them back, it's too late.
A lot of the records are not on any other format, so downloading them isn't an option.
Thanks for all your input. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Just for clarity, format shifting is keeping the original licence/disc, giving them away/selling them is effectively copyright breach. Not intentional, I'm sure, but to be aware of.
Format shifting is now illegal again.
BASCA challenged the new law brought in by Govt. last October and the High Court has has overturned it.

Only for certain formats -
"The new ruling, which overturns the Copyright and Rights in Performances (Personal Copies for Private Use) Regulations 2014, affects CDs, MP3s, DVDs, Blu-rays and e-books."
... which means the public are at liberty to format shift our LPs, VHS tapes, cassettes, 8-tracks, and any digital file format which isn't an mp3, by the look of it .....0 -

I have to say I didn't read through the whole judgement, I started but got fed up and decided life was too short
Although I did think that for the purpose of the law a CD and an LP were the same and the article does say copying a CD for use in the car is no longer legal.
I'm sure all will become clear in time. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

It isn't at all. Thats why you should make backups - many of them if possible.0
