Warm Air Heating to Gas Central Heating

Options
Hi folks,

I'm in the early days of buying a 1970s 3bed semi that currently has warm air heating. I want to get it converted to GCH quickly following completion.

Has anyone made this conversion? If so, most importantly, how much did it cost? But also, did you have to replace flooring following installation of piping and radiators?

Thanks

It'll be pretty much a new installation. If the downstairs foor has a crawl space under it then minimum disruption. Upstairs flooring will need bits lifted to allow pipes to be fitted. It depends on your type of property and the position of the new boiler

Have you ever had Warm Air? There are a number of us who love our system . My House was built with warm air, the cost of ripping out a working system and replacing , then making good is going to be thousands.

I know I can't answer your questions but I would urge to at least live with the system for a time, and not rush into a costly mistake.

I loved mine as well until BG tried to condemn it and wanted £1000's to replace the flue running up the centre of the house.

And they put the maintenance contract up and there is no one local who would service it, needs special training, there is only BG.

Also I tried selling the house and got no takers because no one wanted warm air heating.

I bit the dust and replaced it and now I am saving 22.9% on my hot water as no 3kWh and 5kWh pilot lights..

Don't know about the heating yet as I haven't had it on all that much.

Can I ask howmuch it cost you to replace and how long ago it was?

We'd be looking at a decent boiler with 5 radiators for ours.

If a gas safe engineer needs to condem your appliance there'll be a good reason for it

A lot of us have a Johnson and Starley set up. Parts are still VERY easy to obtain I wonder what 'failed' and I refuse to believe that the cost of the repair would anything like the cost of changing the whole system

BG won't have anything to do with warm air, their engineers/ salesman would always push what they understand.

    Yeah! right !!

75% of the houses in my road have warm air......they seem to sell.

Yes to sell you a new system.

Also he tried, he didn't succeed.

I also wasn't prepared to pay BG their £300 a year maintenance contract

You don't live where I live.

I think there is only one left in my road now.
