That little red cross

Can someone explain to me how to change whatever it is on my computer that stops me looking at certain pictures/images etc., and there's a little red cross in a little box.

Sorry to sound to dumb, but bit of a duffer when it comes to my pc.:o

You get that when the computer has been unable to download the pictures, or when you have told it not to.

Assuming you haven't told it not to (unlikely as you have to dig to find it) then it must be your Internet connection or problems at the web site you are connecting to.

If you are on a dial-up connection it is more likely to happen because it takes longer to get hold of them. Also if your connection has lots of interference it may never be able to get all the parts of the picture to display. After a few re-tries it gives up and shows the little red X instead.

I get this too which is most annoying. How can i tell if my pc has been programmed not to display the pictures? Where do i look?

Are you talking about IE or word?

IE Tools, internet options, advanced, show images.
Word, check that show placeholder isn't checked.
