£2000 inconvenience payment?

Hi there - I had an accident that was not my fault and went through the correct procedure to get the car repaired on the other drivers insurance. This was 5 months ago.

I have had a call from a company called Elite Legal claiming they can source a payment of £2000 for the inconvenience caused?

They also claim that money is set aside for this sort of thing, despite the fact I told them that we suffered no injuries.

Is this true? The company was asking for all the details etc...

Thanks.

  • That "inconvenience" will probably mean 'we'll put it down as personal injury then shall we'.

When they ring again say hang on a minute and put the phone down and ignore it.

They will want you to tell lies or exaggerate any issues. Dont be a party to that.

It's a sales call from a company who will try to make a personal injury claim on your behalf.

I had similar calls after a low speed accident with no injuries.

If you genuinely weren't injured then do the honest thing and tell them to **** off and stop increasing everyone's insurance premiums with claims for non-existent or exaggerated injuries.

Agree with all of the above. It's true that insurers have contingency funds set aside for injury claims and the like, but these people make it sound like there is a little pot of cash with your name on it sitting in an office somewhere, and all you have to do is say the word and you will get what is rightfully yours. It's a clever approach, because most people find that quite a tempting proposition.

I've had similar calls after a prang with a lorry about 18 months ago.

Noone was injured, the company that hit it arranged a replacement vehicle, paid for the damage to be repaired at a garage of my choosing, with both insurers only made aware for admin purpouses (as no claim was made). I had my car back about 2 weeks later with 4 new panels and a new headlight unit.

No need to claim anything in this situation, as you will probably agree, and I imagine your situation will be similar.

Just a quick note, I get phone calls about my 'car accident' all the time. And I've never been in a car accident.
They make it sound like they are calling me about a specific accident they know about.

Agreed, these companies are just parasites. I had a similar phone call just yesterday asking about my accident ( I've never had an accident in all the years I've been driving ). I asked them where they got the information from, they said "The RTA database" :rotfl:

I then said "Thanks for your call, I've actually had 2 accidents in the last few months, which one are you referring to ?". They said "The accident you were involved in". I managed to string them along for a good ten minutes, and even got transferred to a "supervisor", before they hung up on me. Shame, I was having a good giggle :)

I still occasionally get texts about my motorbike crash in 2008 which was technically* my fault - no other vehicle was involved. Yes I was injured, and my bike was totalled, but no other party suffered injury or damage and no insurance claim was made. (I only had TPFT cover).

    * I wasn't speeding in any way ... I was taking the right-hand curve of an S bend and drifted wide onto the scrabbly stuff that gets thrown to the side of the road. This made my front wheel slide so I corrected it and ended up going off-road up a grass bank towards a dry stone wall. I managed to avoid the wall and returned to the flat level (still off road) when I encountered a grass hump/ridge, which led to a small Evel Kneivel (sp) jump. I remained on the bike OK ... until I hit a mound of road resurfacing cast-off - this caused the bike to somersault with me flying through the air (doing a bad impersonation of superman, until my crash landing) and the bike tumbling down the way getting ever more sorry-looking. :(

Apparently the cast-off was removed soon thereafter by a local farmer/someone else ... perhaps that's who the parasites are think I could claim from.
  • I had something similar last year and another one a few weeks ago, the calls seem to be coming from Liverpool in my case. The call last week, they actually called back two times after I first put the phone down after saying I wasn't interested. In the end I said I wasn't interested in committing insurance fraud and they then hung up.

The calls in my case were very confusing and deliberately misleading, at no point do they mention personal injury and say its a premium that my insurance company has set aside for me and the more recent one said it was an accident bonus, they also said they were working on behalf on my insurance company. They make it sound like the moneys waiting and they all they want to know is where to send the cheque.

Which is even more bizarre, because the insurance company already knows where to send the cheque.
