Proof of contract

I was wondering... Do CRA's or debt collection companies have to by law show proof that the debt is yours?

I. e. a signed agreement

Most supply a statement with no verification from the original creditor and I am wondering if there is anything in that should I wish to challenge a collection agency for example.

I am going through the process of clear 2 boogies from 2011/12 and as a few years have past I wonder if I should try that tac first.

I admit it's mine but if they can't actually prove anything other than an account number and amount it seems a little weak from a regulation stand point.

Most of these agencies buy debts for about 10% of there value and the original marks it down as a loss for tax purposes etc
The harder one works the luckier one gets!
