Has anyone any suggestions and/or experience of referring a rejected claim to the Ombudsman where the insurance had been paid (due to redundancy) but the card provider then continued to include the premiums in the monthly direct debit withdrawal payments although the cover was no longer valid due to the changed circumstances?

You may wish to change your thread title as it means nothing at present.Has anyone any suggestions and/or experience of referring a rejected claim to the Ombudsman where the insurance had been paid (due to redundancy) but the card provider then continued to include the premiums in the monthly direct debit withdrawal payments although the cover was no longer valid due to the changed circumstances?
What makes you think that the policy should not have continued? Most allow a reset on redundancy under a new employer after 6 months (or similar)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks for coming back so quickly. The reason I think the policy should have been cancelled (as happened with other cards I had) is that my circumstances had changed and the cover was no longer valid as I was and remained unemployed, and so could not claim this part of the cover. Have I misunderstood the nature of this type of insurance?0

Do you mean they took premiums while you were claiming or do you mean they started taking premiums again after the claim benefit period expired. If the latter then surely its up to you to cancel the PPI if you no longer need it.0

The situation was that I was paid out on my claim over a 12 Month period (which I understand is the standard industrial practice and applied on other cards I had) which cleared the amount I owed on the card at the time, but subsequently they continued to take premium payments although my circumstances have remained the same and I have not been reemployed over the following years. As my post redundancy life was somewhat chaotic and I had moved house I did not notice that the particular card provider had not cancelled the premium draw down as part of my direct debit as my other card providers had, I have continued to have this taken from my bank, though it now seems that I may not be able to claim at present as unemployed. Has anyone any positive suggestions or encouraging tips???0

1 - why didnt you cancel it if you no longer needed it?
2 - what have they said when you asked them about it?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. 1. As I said I only subsequently became fully aware of the situation when they wrote to me for the first time with an insurance review.
2. They seem to be saying in a roundabout way that I was aware of this when I originally took out the insurance in 2002 and have no claim and suggested that if I am not satisfied I should go to the Ombudsman0 -
It looks like they have treated your complaint as a missale complaint (the mention of 2002 suggests that). You would expect that to be rejected as you claimed on the policy which verifies you were eligible and knew about it.
What you are unhappy about now is not a mis-sale complaint. It is whether they should have continued to take premiums out after the claim. Have you addressed that point with them?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I initially asked them why I needed/had insurance, and it has been more than six months since they rejected the matter as a mis-sold PPI claim. Do you think I can go back to them and ask for the matter to be opened as a 'new claim' ?
By the why I really appreciate your input and support with this and don't want to overburden you with queries but can you also advise me how to change the Thread title?0 -

Your complaint has been rejected. It is not an unreasonable rejection either as you claimed on the policy and it paid out. As its gone by the 6 month period, its too late to do anything about it but its unlikely the FOS would have changed the decision.
However, your new complaint is different to your original complaint. Complaint 1 was about mis-sale and that was rejected. Complaint 2 is why did they keep taking premiums after you made the claim. You should raise that as a new complaint.can you also advise me how to change the Thread title?
I cant recall how as I rarely start threads. Hopefully, someone else will jump in but it is possible.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
