JSA to ESA to JSA

Hello

Can anyony help me quickly please,

My son is not well and is on JSA, he want's to claim ESA but is not sure as to if and when he would get kicked off ESA would he have to go on the Universal Credit.

We have read you can't claim JSA online if you have been on ESA in the last calendar month, does this apply to claiming JSA over the phone?

How long could he be on ESA and qualify to make a rapid re-claim for JSA if given the option.

Hope you understand what i mean.

You need to get a sick note from the doctor generally a 4 week sick note, then doctor revises after this period. First he has to close the JSA claim then start the new ESA claim the next day by calling and making an application, ESA doesn't pay a claimant from the first 7 days of sickness after they deem this self certified sickness so a sick note would need to be valid the day after the 7 day waiting period ends.

He can be on ESA for upto 13 weeks before hes required to go for a medical providing the doctor will do a sick note for that time, And to go back on JSA you need to close ESA, claim from the next day and they process the claim within 14 days i believe.

If the sickness is relatively short term then he is better to stay on JSA. You can now have an extended period of sickness for up to 13 weeks and still remain on JSA but be excused work related activities.

You would need fit notes from the doctor.

Thanks, paragon909 and pmlindyloo for the advice, the poor lad's head is cabbaged at present and he can't sleep either.
