Has CallCredit (Noddle) been hacked?

Today, I received an email apologizing for the refusal to supply me with an Aqua Credit Card, but also reminding me of the Noddle service. But I have had an Aqua Credit Card for almost a year and been a member of Noddle for even longer.

The email was sent to an email address that I have only ever used with Noddle, so I suspect that Noddle servers have been hacked and email addresses stolen.

Both Noddle and Aqua acknowledge that these emails are not from them and say they have received a number of complaints commencing at 1pm today.

The question must be, is it just email addresses that have been stolen, or have passwords (or hashes), salts (if used) also been stolen? Has other account data also been stolen, such as credit reports?

Any info from anyone else getting these emails, gratefully received.

Signed up with Noddle, don't have anything with Aqua and not received such emails.

Maybe Noddle just sent the email in error as I just received this follow-up from the same email address...

    Apologies from the Noddle Team,

Earlier today you may have received an email from us advising that you had been declined for an aqua credit card and inviting you to sign-up for aqua Credit Checker.

This email was sent in error, and was not as a result of a recent aqua application. We apologise for any concern or inconvenience caused.

You do not need to take any action, and your existing aqua Credit Checker account remains unaffected.

    Thank you.

CallCredit supplying (selling) your data to Aqua?

I am now pretty sure that the email I received came from Noddle and not Aqua. But how could Noddle ever write an e-mail saying that I have been turned down for an Aqua credit card? Credit Reference agencies are not privy to who has been turned down for credit.

I would suggest the tie-up between Noddle (CallCredit) and Aqua is close than just offering Noddle premium services for free to Aqua credit card holders. Someone at Aqua claimed that CallCredit and Aqua have the same parent company but I am not sure if that is true.

    I got the same one.

It was somewhat obvious that it was a mistake as it started "Dear <space>,"

It was less noticeable when viewing it directly but in my iPhone mail app it showed as "Dear ," which is a fairly clear sign of fat finger syndrome.

I though it was probably a mistake, initially as the English was too good for a scammer! But Aqua denied sending the email, saying it was a scam but Noddle said that Aqua sent it!

Neither were correct as it was Noddle who sent it.

As for Dear <space>, mine was addressed similarly but that could indicate mistake or scam I think.

Unfortunately, Noddle use an emailing company and without any other Noddle emails I could not be sure if the email was from Noddle or not.
