Leasehold Flat- Lease Extension + No Ground Rent

Hi All,
Considering the purchase of a flat with 87 years left on lease with no ground rent payable, there are actually two for sale in the block both with no ground rent, I thought this was usually the case after a lease extension? Built in 2004 so they wont have been extended yet.
If this is normal, the figures I am getting to extend the lease from the calculators are circa £1k, again if this is normal then I am happy to proceed but just feel it's strange to have no ground rent payable at this stage.
All advice appreciated!
