Power shower replacement

Is there any way for a lay person to find out what shower she needs to get? We have an ancient (15yrs?) power shower fitted, which lost all power years ago - so now it just runs cold water, if you like that sort of thing. It used to be a powerful provider of lovely invigorating hot showers.
I now, after research, am not sure if the shower is electric or a power shower. I am trying to get OH to turn off the stopcock, so we can figure out if it's running off the mains or off the water tank.
As for the cable - is this easily seen? The width/size of it? So I can pick the right wattage...
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
we have one about that age; does yours have a name on it? When it worked, did a pump motor start up when you turned it on? Are any pipes/cables visible?

First what do you mean by power shower? A power shower will have hot and cold water pipes to it and a small cable to run a pump. An electric shower will have only a cold water pipe to it, plus a large electric cable with a separate fuse or breaker in the fuse box for the heater.
Try to get someone round to quote for a replacement, they will tell you what you have/need.
If it is an old electric shower check the cable as new ones use more power.
I would look at a 9kw one.0
