gas boiler installation registration

Hi all. A funny one but 3 years ago I had a combi installed. Deliriously happy with it:D

However now selling house so I called gas-reg and they said it was not registered. The installer says it was.

Some how it was registered with post code RG2 5XX and not RG20 5XX. (post code changed but illustrates the point).

So as the original cannot be changed the installer re registered.

The installer says it must be the authorities fault as he selects the address from the post code search. (but it can be done manually to allow for new builds as an example).

The authority says they need him to discuss it with them.

But I now have a £10 invoice from the installer for a "copy of registration". However I know he has re-registered it under the correct post code (I have the document for such). So it isn't a copy.

Now I know a registration cost £4.20. So £5.80 admin???

Apart from why should I pay can anyone say how much effort a registration is?

Cheers. Sorry bit long and ranty but this is beyond me :(
I believe past performance is a good guide to future performance

Difficult one. Really the fact it's been registered incorrectly isn't your problem - you've paid for it to be installed & registered and it's the traders responsibility to ensure it's all done correctly (and take up the fight with gas safe if they've messed up), so you're perfectly entitled to tell your RGI to go do one.

On the other hand it's only a tenner and having a decent plumber/gas fitter you can rely on is worth much more. If you plan on using him again is it worth falling out over a tenner?

£5.80 admin is very cheap. It's still probably 15 minutes out of his day. If this was British Gas, expect to pay 10 times this.

If he didn't make you aware of the charge in advance you have no obligation to pay. Especially since this may all have been his mistake in the first place...
