The first question is are you qualified to fit these? If so, or if you get others to do it, either you need a FENSA certification or a Buildings Regulation Application.

Then are you qualified to specify the glazing and U Value? You may wish to consider Secured By Design, security, ventilation, guarantees, and others to be thrown into the equation.

With regards quality it is impossible to say. Wickes, like any other DIY shed, are likely to change their supplier at the drop of a hat. Hence any reviews will be based on the supplier at that time and written, in all probability, by DIY folks with limited technical know how.

When all this is taken into account one should be wary of buying from Wickes. In a nutshell, it is probable that no professional building contractor, architect, or surveyor would specify these items.

Wickes doors and windows are of good quality.
They carry the necessary glazing certification and meet British Standards.
You can get an unregistered fitter to do the work or you can DIY if you want.
Whichever way you choose you will need a certificate of compliance from your local authority or their agent.
    Forgotten but not gone.

One has to be careful here. What is the definition of "good quality"? British Standards are a minimum standard when one considers quality and can, and are, exceeded by manufacturers.

Wickes will not be selling absolute dross because it is not good for business. But if one is seeking a quality item, rather than just quoting headline prices, then one would look elsewhere.

You do not have to be qualified to fit upvc windows & doors as any householder can do this. Anyone can have a go you do not need to be registered or certified.

This advice is misleading and could lead many people into problems. Wickes catalogue has a small print disclaimer stating that the windows should be fitted and certified by a FENSA installer, or if self fitted then a Buildings Regulations Application must be made. The installation will then receive a professional inspection and if found unsatisfactory they will need to rectified at the consumers time and expense.

This does raise the question why do Wickes supply windows that in most instances cannot be fitted by those who buy them, but that is going off on a tangent.

The reality is that a FENSA installer is unlikely to be fitting Wickes windows supplied by a customer but that too is going off on a tangent.

Equally most DIY consumers will not be aware of the Regulations surrounding the supplying and fitting of windows and doors. This again is going off on a tangent.

For most people, in order to have a simple stress free life Wickes windows and doors should be avoided. Indeed, if Wickes were honest and up front they should not be selling these products.
