Hi
Some advice please
A friend bought me an iPad mini and took at the knowhow insurance costing £79 for three years both as a gift. I have both the receipt and the warranty which was given to me with the gift
Currys are saying that they can't help me because the warranty is in the friends name. If I want to use the warranty I must get the person to write a letter and change the contact details to mine. I have reiterated to the people are Knowhow the ipad was a gift and it came with the warranty. I am no longer in touch with the person making it impossible for me to contact the person.
There are no signs in the shop telling people that when buying a gift and insurance the insurance must be in the recipients name.
I am looking for some advice on this. How right or wrong are they
to saw this. I dont see why i should pay out to get my iPad repaired when it is still under warranty until 15 August 2015.
Thank you in advance

Asking the exact same question again won't change the replies that you get.

The fact is that the warranty is not in your name so Currys do not have to honour it.
They do allow the warranty to be transferred but it is not their fault that you are no longer in contact with the person who made the initial purchase.0 -

Sorry, but Currys are right - their contract is with the original purchaser. Is there really no chance that you can contact the person who bought you the gift so that the warranty can be transferred? Have you been into a store or just called them? You might get a more accommodating staff member if you speak to someone face to face and explain the situation.0 -
The contract is with the original purchaser.
What's more is the paperwork they give with the receipt states (quite clearly) how to change ownership, along with the various T&C of what's covered and not covered.0 -
(1) how old is it?
(2) whats happened to it?
(3) KnowHow is a service plan not a warranty or anything else that can be construed as insurance
(4) What stops you or someone else saying you are John Smith or whatever name its in? Do they ask for ID on collection/ return or just the receipt they give you when you hand it over?0
