Uninstalled Avast using their uninstaller and then decided to check for leftovers using Revo Pro. It found 1381 leftover files and folders and took 80 minutes to delete them.

Just shows what junk can be left behind.

80 minutes seems a bit long. You sure you haven't wiped your hard drive?

I can't speak highly enough of Revo - I'd never uninstall without it

    - that does seem like a very long time though

Out of interest, why did you uninstall it? was it the free or paid-for version. I will explain why later.

I installed the latest Windows Updates (Windows XP Embedded) and Avast(free) stopped working. Could not be bothered to investigate further and as I had been thinking of changing(slow to load at start up) just uninstalled.

Using Panda now and all is good.

My only comments on this are...

I find it extremely odd that so much junk was apparently left and it took so long to find

The IObit uninstaller is completely free and will also handle toolbars plugins and apps.

In truth usually just using the standard uninstallers works pretty well.
