Advice needed.

Bought an item early last week from a retailer. Not eBay. But paid via PayPal. Item cost £30.

Item arrived and was faulty.

Contacted retailer a few minutes after receiving item (fault was obvious) and after trying to convince me it wasn't faulty It was perfectly normal and telling me I'd be out 'time and money' if I sent it back he agreed to replace it.

Sent it back first class recorded same day and low and behold he hasn't received it. Soon as I left the post office I realised I should have sent it special delivery as my postie never asks me to sign for anything sent recorded, just posts it through the letter box. Only ever asks when it's special delivery.

Now maybe I'm being suspicious but his reluctance to accept a return and General arsyness about it leaves me thinking he has received it but the postie didn't ask him to sign so tracking just says it's being progressed through the system. And since I can't prove other wise he's simply saying he's not received it back.

Now I've no idea what to do. Obviously I'll wait a few more days so it's officially considered 'lost' by RM. But do I take the loss as it's my fault for sending it first class recorded and not special delivery. Or do I try to claim it back via PayPal because he sent me a faulty item in the first place?

Unfortunately paypal will expect to see at least an attempt at delivery before they will consider a SNAD claim, so you may have to wait 15 working days and claim from RM yourself if seller claims item never arrives.

    Thanks.

My own stupid fault for not sending it special delivery really.

What does it say when you punch the reference number in online?

Item (tracking number) was posted at (my local PO) on 06/07/15 and is being progressed through our network for delivery.

If it still shows as not delivered after the 15 working days, you will be able to claim with proof of the value (eBay sales page) however I believe the limit of what you will get is £20. You were simply self insured for the other £10 which in this case you will have lost.

According to RM's site first class recorded is insured up to £50.

It wasn't an eBay purchase. I payed via paypal though so have proof of the items worth.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I've no idea to be honest. I've never had to claim from RM.

I'm annoyed he can keep my item and my cash and there's sod all I can do.

I also realise because of my own stupidity I have no proof he has my item. Just a gut feeling given his attitude previously.

Yes signed for gives £50 of 'insurance' for eligible items.

Just to update this I took a chance and put a PayPal claim in.

Wouldn't you know it the package turned up with him the day after I put the claim in.

Then be pulled the old 'PayPal won't let me refund until you close the case' hahaha. I called PayPal and told them and they refunded me there and then.
