Monarch bags

Probably a bit Off topic , but Monarch are checking bags and hand luggage quite thoroughly at Gatwick Airport and again at the gate and if they are over weight are refusing to allow them on board. We flew out to Malaga last week and a number of suitcases were refused on board and held back to go in the hold.

Surprisingly though they were also doing it again at Malaga on the return, and again people were being told to leave their hand luggage at boarding gate if it was overweight .

On the outbound journey I only had a normal handbag, and they even weighed that!

    Good! :T
About time more airlines started to clamp down on people who think that size, weight & number restrictions don't apply to them.

Yes, though the weight makes little difference, that's just a revenue-generating exercise. No other passenger is inconvenienced by a carry-on bag being a couple of kg heavier, as long as it is within size and can be lifted into the lockers or fitted under the seat. Dimensions and number of pieces are the main issue.

More weight equals more fuel used.

Just been through Monarch check-in at Brum. They did weigh my hand luggage but then, they always have.

They have started doing it fairly routinely at Gatwick but I was surprised they re weighed it at the gate, and also that Malaga bothered to do it at all.

Like the responses above I am only too happy to have the sizes and weight restriction applied.

I did once have an (un) funny conversation with someone in the waiting at gate area about how daft I was to pay for hold luggage when it was perfectly possible to use 10kg to pack a couple of bits and pieces, plus a book and toiletries and just wear items more than once- no need for fresh clothes all the time apparently. The chap stunk to high heaven and I sat there with my fingers crossed that I wasn't seated near him on the plane.

They didn't re-weigh at the gate at Brum. Straight on the plane (after a short walk across the tarmac).

Yes, it always amuses me when people state that it is perfectly possible to go away for a fortnight with just 5kg of hand luggage. It might be, but my camera bag weighs 5kg on its own.
